Success in Life

Filed under: Humour,Life,Poetry,Thoughts — by Karen @ 10:51 am

To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded.

This quotation is frequently incorrectly attributed to Ralph Waldo Emerson.

It is in fact taken from Bessie Stanley’s publication on quotations on success. The wording is slightly different, but it is almost certainly the source.

For me, this quotation, or poem, gives a real and true definition of success. Well worth working towards!!

  1. Do you know what you have really written? Amazing! I loved the concept.
